Vancouver (and Victoria) B.C. Eateries

I like food.

Just in case you didn't know that, I wanted to make sure we were all on the same page.

I really like to eat. And I've done a really good job of it all my life, but especially this last week.

We have had some visitors (otherwise known as my in-laws, Matt's parents (and sister), or the people I stole my last name from).

Since they have been here, we have been mostly eating out, which on a normal week I don't like to do too often, but since this is vaca and all (I'm saying I'm on vaca because they are and I don't want to be left out of the club), I like to make some exceptions to the rule and indulge myself.

And luckily, I like food.

Since I like food, and I assume you like food, since you are here and whatnot, and maybe (just maybe) you might make the decision to come visit me in Vancouver one day (please do!), I would share with you some of the many eateries and restaurants in this big city (and one or two from my trip to Victoria). Phew, that was a long sentence. Are you still with me?

Just a forewarning, these are all iPhone photos, so they are not all up to par, and some of the restaurants had low lighting, which really made the photo-taking-thing hard, but don't be turned off capeesh? I wouldn't be sharin these with ya if it weren't worth it!

First out of the gates is Burgoo. Please, oh please make this a MUST EAT place if you are in Vancouver. Seriously, if you don't eat anywhere else (what are you a mouse???), make Burgoo the place you do eat.

I have been there twice, and we discovered it thanks to some amazing Canadian friends (**waving hello to Cale and Jess!**)

Short side story: We met Cale and Jessika in New Zealand. They went there for a month, we happened to meet them, became great friends, and now have gotten to hang out with them on this side of the world. So amazing how small of a world we live in :)

Back to Burgoo. Despite the name, they don't serve burgers. They serve comfort food. The best comfort food around. And Burgoo is a dish they serve at Burgoo. Crazy, I know.

Pictures really don't do the food justice here. Both times I have been there I ordered the soup and sandwich combo, choosing a different soup each time, but I couldn't make myself order another sandwich because the Cheese Griller is seriously the best.grilled.cheese.ever.

This soup here is the french onion soup, and I have also had the crab bisque and they are both excellent to the maxxxxx!

Matt ordered the Beef Bourguinon the first time (I like to pretend I channeled Julia and made it myself), and Macaroni and More the second time.

The menu is so extensive, and more than that, so amazing, we are making it a goal to go there once a week and order something different every time. Ok, that might be an exaggeration, but we will definitely be back many more times!

As I said, make Burgoo a place you definitely eat at in Vancouver! They have 4 locations, but here is the one we ate at:

North Vancouver
3 Lonsdale Ave.
North Vancouver
Tel.(604) 904-0933

Another place that is a MUST if you want to eat burgers (don't go to Burgoo for burgers, as confusing as that may be!) is Romer's Burger Bar.

This is the place. Yep this is the one. The one I put on Instagram the other day of that burger and amazing fries. Ill show you again...

This is the Mushroom Burger that has ground beef, portabella mushrooms, feta cheese, and an amazing sauce that I don't even know what it was, but it was incredible. I almost ate the whole thing. And it was on a soft brioche bun.

And oh YES! Those truffle fries with Reggiano cheese. Holy truffle cheese heaven! These fries were definitely heaven sent!

This place is slightly pricey for burgers, but worth every last cent!

Vancouver BC

L'Antipasto is another great little place in Yaletown. They serve Italian food, and have really great lunch specials, like the panini and salad special.

Here is the Caprese Panini, which is so amazing on their fresh made baguette!

And this is their Lavender Infused Creme Brulee. Oh wow, I want this one again! I don't typically order dessert out, only because I fill myself to the brim on the main dishes, but this was worth the over-stuffing.

After this week, I am going to look like a stuffed animal - soft, chubby and very cuddle-able. Good thing I already have a husband ;)

1127 Mainland St.
Vancouver, BC V6B 5P2

Another awesome burger shop is Vera's Burger Shack. They are a more casual burger place, but equally as good as the more expensive ones.

I ordered the BBQ Burger, and we (Matt and I) shared a basket of fries. Yummm, I'm wishing for this again!

Vera's Burger Shack
213 Carrall Street in Maple Tree Square
(604) - 568-5850

If you are in to sushi and Japanese food, I have three places for you that are all amazing (sorry no pictures here)

Sushi Bella
152 Lonsdale Avenue
North Vancouver, BC V7M 2E

Honjin Sushi
140 Lonsdale Ave
North Vancouver, BC V7M 2E8

Kadoya Sushi

Vancouver, BC V6E 1N2
All of these have fabulous Japanese food and the freshest sushi around (the benefits of living by the ocean!) But Sushi Bella and Kadoya only serve sushi, so if you are looking for more Donburi's and stuff like that, go to Honjin. And definitely don't judge a restaurant by the looks of the outside. You won't be disappointed going in!

I know I am giving you TONS of places to eat, but I have to talk about one more place, and this one is in Victoria.

We went there over the weekend, and had so much fun. We ate at a lot of amazing restaurants, but I will only share one with you here (if you want other recommendations, I have plenty, so please ask!)

Floyd's Diner in Victoria is a really cute retro type restaurant who are famous for the Mahoney, where it is Chef's choice on the meal, and it is always a lot of food. They cater to who ever is ordering the food. You don't know what you are going to get, but you know it will be a lot of food.

Then with the Mahoney, you get the choice to flip for your food to pay double or nothing. It's a risk, but you know it will be worth it!

I braved up and ordered the Mahoney, and here is what I got. A bagel sandwich with chicken, egg, tomato, lettuce, onion, red bell peppers, and an amazing spicy sauce, as well as fried potatoes on the side. It was fantastic, even though I LOST the flip, and had to pay $28 rather than $0, but it was worth it!

When was the last time you took a chance with your food? You might be surprised with what you get and how good it is!

Downtown Location
866 Yates St Victoria BC

Now make it a PRIORITY to come to Vancouver (and Victoria if you can), visit me, and eat at some of these amazing restaurants! And if you have any other questions or need more recommendations, I'll be happy to answer questions!

And if you are wanting to celebrate Doughnut Friday, make sure you check out my Chocolate Ganache Glazed Doughnuts!

Disclaimer: I was given a free dessert at L'Antipasto for tweeting about them, but other than that, I was not compensated for any of these meals. I just wanted to share some amazing restaurants with you!

  1. This just made me super jealous and really hungry!

  2. Oh my all of this food looks amazing! I am coming to visit you!! Haha. I am the same way, when friends come to visit all I want to do is try new restaurants because we never usually go out either.

  3. Oh my gosh. I want those hamburgers! I'm happy that you made this list because we intend on visiting Vancouver one day for sure. At least I'll know where to get the food now! :)

  4. Wow I'll have to try some of these restaurants in Victoria BC. That food looks delicious.
